Ketetahi Car Park Options
With the restrictions on Ketetahi car park and Mangatepopo car park now in place, you have several options available to you:
To secure a car park at Ketetahi you need to arrive before 6.00 am, possibly earlier, as visitor numbers increase as the summer progresses.
If you have arrived at Ketetahi car Park and it is full, you can proceed back down the main road and turn right and park 150m down on the roadside reserve (marked yellow on the Map).
If you are concerned about safety of your vehicle and its contents, we recommend parking in the security car park which is located opposite the Ketetahi car park road. Access to this car park is by turning right and is located 500m down the road on your left.
Ketetahi overflow car park – A pop up car park, located 700m from the Ketetahi car park road entrance on State Highway 46.
We recommend you arrive early, at least 15 minutes prior to departure, to sort yourselves out.
Regardless of where you are in the world, never leave your valuables unattended in your vehicle. NZ is a great country, but unfortunately we still get our share of ratbags. Always take your wallet and passport with you!
Caution is required when driving around this area, there is a high percentage of international drivers in close proximity, please do not be the person to stop in the middle of the highway to look at maps, take photos, make phone calls etc.
Patience and politeness is always good, if you are driving slowly, pull over and let the people behind you pass.
All bookings need to be confirmed by phone (0800 247 800) 48 hours prior to departure so you can have the most up to date track and weather conditions and your pick up location and time will also be confirmed.
Credit card details are required to secure your booking if booking by phone.
Being a weather dependent activity in an alpine environment on active volcanoes, we reserve the right to cancel at short notice if the conditions are unsafe to proceed. If we cancel, for safety reasons, we offer a full refund or an alternate date, your choice.
If you cancel more than 24 hours out you will receive a refund less an administration fee of 30% or an alternate date.
If you cancel within 24 hours you will be offered an alternate date but no refund.
We do realise that stuff happens that is out of your control and we will endeavour to make things right, we deal with these situations on a case by case basis to the relevant legislation.
Your Safety is our Priority
As a DOC concessionaire we take our safety responsibilities seriously. We have a duty of care for you.
Cell Phone Coverage
There is cell phone coverage all over the mountains; it can be limited in places, so keep moving along the trail until you get some coverage. (No cell phone coverage is not an excuse for not being able to contact us).
